Parenheses are used to “nest” query terms within each other. They are also use to designated an order in which the data base interprets the search.

Using Laws 1-8 on page 53, show

  3. (~a \/ b) -> ~p is equivalent to p -> (a /\ ~b)
  4. ~(p -> q) is equivalent to p /\ ~q

The class on Friday, 9/28 will meet in the second floor computer lab, room B 223.  To log in to the computer, the username is the first 3 letters of your last name followed by the last four digits of your social security number.  The password is 5 9’s followed by the last four digits of your social security number.

Some notes:

When using Academic Search Premier, click on BASIC Search.  You know you are in the right database if the graphic on the upper left hand corner says Ebsco Host

For Infotrac General Onefile, click on BASIC Search and make sure the Keyword radio button is selected.
